The Leeds United Foundation hosted an exclusive careers event at Mount St Mary’s Catholic High School with over 40 students in Year 7 recently.
During the event, coaches from the club’s official charity spoke with the youngsters about their own career paths, what is involved with becoming a coach and the qualifications required.
The event included a thorough presentation from the Leeds United staff along with a brainstorming session with the students able to think about key characteristics needed not just for coaching positions but for further education and various career paths. Together they discussed the importance of being organised, a team player, good at planning and timekeeping, remaining enthusiastic and always communicating. The coaches also discussed first aid training and information surrounding DBS checks, two things useful for a number of jobs.
Qualifications that were discussed starting with the FA’s basic qualifications that are required to become a coach, included:
- Play Maker
- Level One
- Level Two
- Level Three: UEFA B
- Level Four: ‘A’ Licence
The presentation also included a question-and-answer session, with the pupils asking respectful and insightful questions to gather as much information as they could during the day.
