Leeds United Women’s players Charlotte Oates and Ellie White dropped in on one of the Girls’ Summer Camps, getting involved with the activities in place for the youngsters.
Delivered by the Leeds United Foundation, the camp held at Bodington Football Hub was open for all females of all abilities aged from seven to 15. The camps run across the summer school holidays and use sport to help the children develop their skills on and off the pitch.
Session leader Mike Hall expressed his appreciation of the event, saying: “We have had a visit from a couple of the Leeds players and having those role models really helps the girls see it and believe it, especially with the Lionesses’ recent success.
“In these girls’ camps, I have seen the ability grow and the passion and the enthusiasm of the girls is fantastic to be a part of.”
Following on from their FA WNL Division One North victory over Chester-le-Street Town the previous weekend, goalkeeper Oates and midfielder White joined up with the group, where they hosted a Q&A and played some football.
“It is great for the youngsters and myself and Ellie as well,” said Oates. “I think for the kids it has hopefully been inspirational.
“Our experiences of football 15, 20 years ago was very different to what we are experiencing now and I think it is important for us to be able to share our knowledge and hopefully inspire the next generation.”
White added: “It is also important to pinpoint how many girls are here today. It is amazing for us to see that the Foundation are doing excellent work.
“When we were growing up there was nothing like this for us, so it is a pivotal point to make that the Foundation, and all the other foundations across the country, are doing amazing work for girls’ and women’s football and sport.”
