Leeds United Women return to FA WNL Division One North action this weekend with a Yorkshire derby against Barnsley, away from home.
The clash will take place at Oakwell on Sunday, with Simon Wood’s side looking to close the gap to third-placed Chorley with a win over the Reds.
After returning to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Norton & Stockton Ancients, versatile full-back Darcie Greene is pleased with the character the squad have shown as they look to recapture their strongest form and finish the campaign impressively.
“I thought it was probably the best we have performed in a while,” the 28-year-old explained after the win.
“Norton are a very physical team, and obviously they are in a position where they need to be picking up points, so 3-0 was a really good result for us.
“I think it is just consistency that is something that we need to work on, especially recently. We lost a big match against Huddersfield, so we need to keep aiming to be more consistent in our performances.”
Sunday’s encounter with the Reds will also be a special match on a personal note for Greene who, alongside sister Drew and a number of current teammates, previously enjoyed a spell with the Tykes.
“It is going to be a hard game against them,” Darcie added. “They need three points just as much as we do, so we have just got to concentrate on our own game.
“We have worked on their threats in training, so hopefully we can minimise them, but it is going to be a tough game.
“Playing at Oakwell, they will be up for it but we have just got to enjoy the experience and hopefully we can get the job done and get three points.
“A few of us all played for Barnsley at the same time, so it is going to be nice to go back there and experience that together. We are really looking forward to it.
“There is always a good amount of fans supporting Leeds, which we are very lucky to have, so hopefully they will make their way down to Barnsley and enjoy the game.”
