Daniel Farke: We dominated the game

Boss reflects on cup success.

Daniel Farke celebrates with fans Forest A CCR2 Aug 26

After overseeing his side record a second win at the City Ground over Nottingham Forest in a matter of days, Daniel Farke was thrilled with the Whites’ display in the EFL Cup.

Second half goals from Daniel James and Lukas Nmecha sealed United’s progression to the Third Round of the competition with a victory the manager believes was more than deserved.

“The start to the season was not too bad!” the boss told the media. “Of course, first and foremost, it was important to go through to the next round.

“This is what you play for this round. We did this in a tough place. We had to wait pretty long for a clean sheet win here at Nottingham and then to do it twice within four days is remarkable.

“I am pretty sure they were also even more motivated, also a bit out for revenge today. But the level of performance was decisive today.

“I think today was no doubt that was a well-deserved win. We dominated the game, more or less, from the first to the last second. And I just have compliments for the boys for the win but also for the level of performance today.”

Discussing the opening goalscorer’s performance, Farke added: “I think Daniel James was excellent today. He especially was in many good positions and brought himself into dangerous areas, had himself chances, but also put some great balls in.

“We didn’t reward ourselves in the first half and this was more or less the only critical point I could speak about at half time.

“The second half was excellent and DJ also with a well-taken ice-cold goal. Happy for him after a tough last year, also after a while when he scored the last goal in a competitive game.”
