Following what has been an incredibly productive and busy spell in the Premier League, attentions now turn to the Emirates FA Cup for Leeds United’s semi-final meeting with rivals Chelsea.
The Whites rescued an important point on the south coast in midweek as Sean Longstaff rifled a stoppage time volley home to draw 2-2 with AFC Bournemouth.
Reflecting on the very tight turn around for his squad, boss Daniel Farke gave an update on the fitness of his team, beginning with an unfortunate announcement regarding midfielder Ilia Gruev.
“Yes, sadly bad news,” the manager said regarding the Bulgarian international. “So, a meniscus injury is confirmed. It will keep him definitely out for the whole season.
“He won’t be able to help us for the run-in, not in the FA Cup and also not in the league. We expect to have him back more or less for pre-season then but he won’t feature during this season anymore. It is of course not ideal for us and we all feel for him.
“Jayden Bogle got a hit against his foot anyhow but it seems not to be too bad. We have to wait right now how quick he can recover and I hope to have him available also for the game on Sunday.”
On Anton Stach’s return to the squad from injury, Farke said: “We have obviously a few more days and, yes, we will see. So, first step is right now to have him back in team training rather sooner than later.
“And, of course, if a key player like him would be back in team training, then he has also a chance to be picked because he is a crucial player for us. But, yeah, let’s see how the next 72 hours will develop.”
Discussing defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, the German added: “During the warm-up, he rolled his ankle and it was not ideal. Yesterday it was pretty, pretty sore. Also today, he was not able to join us in team training but I hope it is not too bad.
“At least it seems that there is no ligament injury. I hope to have him back in training tomorrow and if he is back in training, then he would be also be available.”
