Daniel Farke: A good shift against a good side

Boss reflects on Villarreal draw.

FARKE Villarreal 2

Leeds United faced La Liga side Villarreal CF at Elland Road in a pre-season friendly, as both teams continued their build-up towards the 2025/26 campaign beginning.

A tough test throughout saw the scores end level, with Joel Piroe netting a second half equaliser for the Whites.

Speaking after the match, Daniel Farke gave his thoughts on the game.

He said: “A Good shift against a good side, that's what we wanted.

“First of all to have the feeling of being back at Elland Road, also for the new signings, I think it's important to have this first experience for them and then to play a side who plays regularly at the Champions League level.

“Because if you're also honest, this is also the quality that we will face at least very often at the Premier League level. And for that, we have to deal with it and get on with it.

“We showed today that we are capable of doing this. Obviously, it was a mixed game and both teams had their spells, you could see the quality.

“You could also tell that both teams are in the middle of their pre-season so not every detail was perfect in terms of defending or attacking. But overall, I think, in the end, a well-deserved draw for both sides.

“Both teams had the chances to win this game and I think overall it was a really good shift and an important test for us, also important to get some minutes into the legs and some experiences and to see also players in different positions.”
