The start of April is a time of reflection for all Leeds United supporters as we remember Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, who tragically had their lives taken from them whilst away supporting the club on 5thApril 2000. This year marks 23 years since they left us.

Officials from the club have met with members of both the Loftus and Speight families in recent weeks to plan this year’s celebration of their lives.

There will be a minute’s silence at Chris and Kev’s plaque on the East Stand at 2pm on Wednesday 5th April, which will be attended by members of the families along with their friends and delegates from Leeds United.

We will then come together as a club ahead of our game with Crystal Palace on Sunday 9th April with a minute’s applause ahead of kick off, as well as various other dedications.

Leeds United chief executive Angus Kinnear said: “Remembering Chris and Kev and supporting the families who have suffered horrendous injustice over the past 23 years is part of the fabric of Leeds United. As custodians of the club, we have looked to continue the tradition of marking 5th April each year at Elland Road and working alongside the families.

“After speaking with supporters last year, we want to ensure that we are doing as much as we can to honour Chris and Kev’s memories with a memorial that can be continued throughout the future generations of Leeds United supporters.”
