Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, the global event that takes place every year to celebrate women and all of their achievements.
To mark the occasion Leeds United gathered female staff from across the club for a team photo to showcase just how many women we have working in the various departments at both Elland Road and Thorp Arch.
Some of the areas represented included those in the football department, finance, HR, commercial, communications, ticketing, events and catering, retail, education, safeguarding, player care and a number of roles in the Leeds United Foundation.
International Women’s Day (IWD) not only celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, but it also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality throughout the world.
The first IWD event occurred back in 1911, and it has been supported by millions of people ever since.
This year the theme for the campaign is #BreakTheBias with a strong message around how bias can often make it difficult for women to move ahead, whether it is deliberate or unconscious. The message is to take action, encouraging women and men to actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping – each time you see it.
If you would like to take part in the campaign and show your support, you can strike the IWD 2022 pose by crossing your arms to show solidarity and share your photo on social media using #BreakTheBias.
