Leeds United Under-18s ran out 1-0 winners over Bristol City Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday evening.
Carrick Njinko’s 77th minute deadlock-breaker secured progression to the fourth round for the young Whites, after he volleyed home at the back post following a deflection.
After the game, Njinko commented on the win, saying: “Before the game, we knew their game plan was to be very direct and aggressive. After the first 20 minutes we took control of the game, and we had many chances and obviously scored from my chance.
“It’s important to be a team as we’re through to the next round against Swansea City Under-18s at home, and we’re going to have to bring the same energy and commitment to that game as we did here.
“They’re a new team, we haven’t played them before, so it’s very good to get the win together today and now go into that game.”
Ahead of the next clash against Burnley Under-18s in the U18 Premier League, the winger said: “We’re very confident, momentum was gained from this game, and hopefully we can go and get a win against Burnley.”
