The match officials for Leeds United’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Cardiff City on Saturday have been announced, with Josh Smith set to take charge at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Having started out as an official aged just 14, Smith spent time on the EFL Assistant Referee circuit before turning to refereeing. Initially plying his trade in the National League, Smith then was promoted to the EFL.
The official has taken charge of six matches in all competitions so far this term, including Brentford's clash with Southampton in the Premier League.
The Whites have a strong record when Smith has been in the middle, winning three of their six matches and drawing twice. Last campaign, the official notably refereed Leeds’ Play-Offs draw away at Norwich City, as well as the 3-1 home victory over Hull City.
Cardiff, meanwhile, have a mixed record in their eight matches overseen by Smith, winning three and losing three.
Whilst yet to referee a fixture involving the Bluebirds this campaign, Smith did take charge of last season’s curtain raiser between the two clubs, with the Whites fighting back from two goals down to earn a well-deserved point at Elland Road.
