Leeds United Women added experience and quality to the midfield engine room with the signing of Beth Guy from Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old joins the Whites with one promotion from this division already under her belt, guiding Newcastle United to the title back in the 2022/23 campaign.
The seventh new addition to Simon Wood’s squad since the start of pre-season, Guy made her debut for her new side in the Women’s FA Cup last weekend.
Speaking after joining the club, the former Boro star explained how much she was looking forward to the season ahead.
“I am really excited to get going,” she told LUTV. “It is definitely a new challenge, but it is something that I am relishing and I can’t wait to get going.
“I have always thought Leeds were a good side. I have never hidden away from that. I have always said Leeds are a good footballing side and I have been impressed in their games this season. I think they are relishing the challenge to try and get to the top of the table.
“I think the challenge when I had spoken to Simon about coming to Leeds is promotion. I think it is definitely something that I want to achieve with Leeds and I think it is definitely doable. Leeds have a great team already, so hopefully I can just add to that!
“Leeds has a fanbase throughout recent years that has only grown and I think as the women’s game gets bigger, you can see it on a week-to-week basis that the fanbase that come and watch Leeds United Women is massive.”
A combative and tenacious player in the heart of midfield, Guy believes the squad are up for the task of mounting a challenge for the title.
“I like to keep it simple. I like to think I do the simple stuff well. You are not going to see anything flashy in terms of any sort of tricks or skills or anything like that. I just like to keep the ball and play football!
“I think team goal, definitely, is to get promoted. I think it is anyone’s this year. I know Middlesbrough are top of the league, but I think we know we have seen in recent weeks that anyone can beat anyone.”
