Prior to Friday night’s final home match of the Premier League 2 Division One season against Manchester City, Andy Taylor has given his thoughts to the media.
The Whites take on the league leaders under the lights of Elland Road and will be roared on by a strong home support, as they aim to finish the season positively.
Speaking on the match itself, Taylor said the players understand the importance of the game.
He explained: “The lads understand the size of the game, especially when you start talking about the crowds and everything else.
“They understand the magnitude of the game and the occasion. I think it’s important they embrace it, embrace the pressure, because they all want a career in Leeds United’s first team so every Saturday you are going to have that 10 times over!
“I think this one on Friday night, you probably don’t get any closer to a Premier League game than this.
“We’ve got thousands coming to watch at Elland Road against a really strong Manchester City team, who are going for the title.
“They want to win to win the league, we need to win to stay in the league, so there is that added pressure of needing to win the game as well so it all adds up to a good night.
“The Under-23s is a development team and development league, with the whole idea to get from there and into the first team.
“However, part of that process is trying to prepare the lads on how to win games of football and the importance of winning a game of football.
“I think Friday is great exposure for them on a bit more of a controlled level, if you like, and hopefully they all thrive on that.”
