Amy Woodruff: We can’t wait to be back

Forward looks ahead to start of the season.

Amy Woodruff pre Chorley

Leeds United Women’s FA WNL Division One North campaign gets underway this weekend with a challenging clash with Chorley Women.

Ahead of the encounter at the Bannister Prentice Stadium, last season’s Player of the Year Amy Woodruff believes the squad is in a great place ahead of the league opener.

“I can’t wait,” the attacker explained. “I feel like it has been ages since the last game in the league. Just to get back at it and be with the team, it is going to be exciting.

“We have had a great pre-season and made some great signings. I just can’t wait to get going now!

“The main priority will always be to get promotion and to get three points every game. Obviously, to do that, you do have to score goals.

“So, yeah, my personal goals are just to maintain consistency and a good goal-to-game ratio and keep that at a good level. As I said though, the main priority is always to get teams to where they deserve to be.

“It will be a tough opening game. Obviously, we played them towards the back end of last season but they have had a long break.

“They have probably regrouped and we know that they are a very well-structured team with a set game plan. It will be a tough test but I am sure everyone will be up and ready for it.

“We can’t wait to be back at Garforth. It is like having a 12th player on the pitch. We have got great support at our home games and away games. They do support us as much as they can.

“It is nice to have home advantage for the opening game of the season, definitely to have our fans there supporting us and hopefully we will get some new faces down as well to watch us.”
