Leeds United Women’s striker Amy Woodruff marked her return to the club with a goal at the weekend and is keen to carry on that form throughout the season.
A star of the Whites’ 2023 FA Women’s National League Plate winning side, the former Brighouse player scored 13 goals in just 18 starts that campaign, and is now focused on finding her feet once more with the club.
After taking a break from the game, Simon Wood’s fourth signing of the summer is thrilled to be back wearing the badge and is looking forward to the season ahead.
“It is exciting,” said the forward. “I feel like I am back where I should be and playing at the right team, which is a good thing after having a break.
“I am excited with the club’s ambitions this year, and they have made some great signings, so I am delighted to be part of it.
“As soon as I went to my first training session and saw the setup again, it was just at a different level. The environment is great and as soon as I got there, my mind was made up straight away.
“Pre-season has been good. It has been so easy to settle in because they are a great bunch of people. I knew quite a few of the new signings from playing with them previously, and all the girls that I knew from Leeds before have been really welcoming.
“They have made it feel so good to be back and shown their appreciation for me coming back and committing to Leeds again.”
Woodruff would star in the Whites’ victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles in last weekend’s Julie Chipchase Trophy, grabbing a well-taken second in the 3-1 win.
“I was really nervous because I haven’t played in a long time,” she continued. “But as soon as I got into it, it was really good and you could see everything we have done in training show on the pitch.
“Getting my first goal in the first game back really gave me belief in myself that I am going to have another good season and I can help the team out a lot.
“I think it was definitely needed for my confidence in returning to football, and it has got me even more excited and ambitious to kick on with the season now.
“A Yorkshire derby to start is really exciting. Huddersfield will be a tough match, we know that, so we will prepare well for it and hopefully it will kick start the season.
“Getting one of the tougher teams up first gets you more eager to start going. Hopefully it gets us started with momentum and we can get to where we need to be, ending with promotion.
“I have had so many nice messages and people welcoming me back to the club. Stick with us, we are working hard every week and we are ready to get going!”
