Leeds United Under-10s star Alim met first-team captain Ethan Ampadu and Under-21s skipper Reuben Lopata-White, after creating a No Room For Racism inspired captain’s armband as part of the Premier League’s ongoing campaign.
As the club continues efforts to raise awareness around the fight to tackle discrimination within the game, the youngster’s winning design was selected to be printed after winning an academy-run competition.
Over a recent weekend, both Leeds United U18s and U21s’ captains could be seen wearing the blue and yellow armband, which featured a powerful fist design on the front that also celebrated the hugely important Black History Month.
After being crowned with the best design, Alim met with Ampadu to pose for photos and have a chat, before the Wales international presented him with a signed Leeds United shirt.
Alim and his family then travelled to York for the U21s’ Premier League Cup clash with Stockport County where, ahead of the game, he presented Lopata-White with the armband who then led the team out against the Hatters.
The Whites would go on to win 3-1, with the team’s skipper quick to praise Alim’s creativity and confidence in addressing the topic.
“It was great to meet him and his family after he presented me with the amazing new armband,” Reuben explained. “I think embracing the ‘No Room For Racism’ movement is essential as it fosters unity and promotes understanding. It was even better to wear it in a win as well!”
