Brenden Aaronson completed 77 minutes as the United States finished top of Group D despite a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Turkey in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage fixture, played in front of a crowd of 70,492 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Having already secured qualification for the knockout stages, Mauricio Pochettino's side had little riding on the result, with progression to the last 32 already guaranteed.

Turkey snatched victory deep into stoppage time in an entertaining contest, but the USA's earlier wins over Australia and Paraguay ensured they advanced as group winners and will now face Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on Wednesday 2 July (01:00 BST) in Santa Clara.

Leeds United midfielder Aaronson produced an energetic display before being replaced in the 77th minute.

The 25-year-old was a constant attacking threat, recording the most touches (nine) inside the Turkish penalty area and finishing with three shots - the joint-highest total of any player on the pitch.

Aaronson also enjoyed 45 touches, completed 21 passes and created two chances, while his work rate without the ball remained a key feature of his performance. Defensively, he contributed four tackles, three recoveries and won five duels, underlining his all-action display at both ends of the pitch.

The USMNT will now turn their attention to Bosnia-Herzegovina, with a place in the last 16 at stake when the sides meet in Santa Clara.
