Leeds United completed the transfer of Junior Firpo on Tuesday and now you can get to know our new arrival with 10 facts about him below:
1) Junior Firpo was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Thursday 22nd August 1996 and moved to Spain at the age of six.
2) He went on to join Real Betis’ youth setup in 2014 and he made his first La Liga start four years later, on February 12th 2018, helping Betis to a 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna, becoming the first Dominican Republic-born player to have ever featured in La Liga.
3) In his seventh match in Spain’s top-flight, Junior scored his first goal for the Betis senior team, in a 3-0 victory against Espanyol on March 17th 2018.
4) Junior made his UEFA Europa League debut on October 25th 2018, helping Betis defeat AC Milan 2-1 at the San Siro.
5) On 30th June 2019, Junior played 90 minutes in the final of the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, helping Spain defeat Germany 2-1 at the Stadio Friuli, Udine. Former Leeds loan man Alfonso Pedraza was an unused substitute on the Spain bench, as was new teammate Robin Koch on the Germany bench.
6) Following the European Championship, on August 4th 2019, Junior was signed by FC Barcelona. He departed Real Betis having made 43 appearances, chipping in with seven assists and five goals.
7) He made his FC Barcelona debut against his former club Betis on August 25th 2019, with Barcelona running out 5-2 winners at the Nou Camp.
8) On 27th November 2019, Junior made his debut in the UEFA Champions League, playing 90 minutes as Barcelona defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-1 at the Nou Camp.
9) In Barcelona’s final La Liga match of the 2020/21 season, Junior made his last appearance for the club as they beat SD Eibar 1-0 at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium.
10) On Tuesday 6th July 2020, Firpo signed for Leeds United from Barcelona.
