SAB Profile: Ken McArthur

I have been a member of the Leeds United Supporters Board since it was reformed in February 2022. I don’t represent any particular supporters’ group, but I do my best to reflect the views of our older supporters.

I’ve been following Leeds United since I was about 13 or 14, shortly after moving to Wetherby. One of my earliest and fondest memories came at the end of the 1972 season, the year we won the FA Cup, when I was invited to a private celebration reception for players and staff at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate. I had the chance to meet and speak with many of the first‑team players - an unforgettable experience.

Before that, in the late 1960s, I was training to be a chef and worked weekends at a very upmarket country restaurant. Don Revie and his family were regulars, and I often served them Sunday lunch. Those encounters cemented my connection to the club long before I could attend matches regularly.

Work commitments meant I couldn’t get to many games for a long time, and it wasn’t until around 15 years ago that I was able to start attending home matches consistently with my sons and grandchildren. In 2017, one of my sons and I applied - successfully - for season tickets in the South-East Stand, known affectionately as the Cheese Wedge.
