The BTEC Level 1 Introductory in Sport course is designed for learners who are interested in sport, fitness and physical activity.

Want to develop the skills and confidence needed for further study or future careers in sport? This one‑year course provides a practical introduction to the sports sector while helping learners build key personal and employability skills.

Learners will complete a range of units, including:

  • Playing Sport

  • Training for Fitness

  • Coaching Skills in Sport

  • Being Organised

  • Developing a Personal Progression Plan

The course combines practical activities with classroom learning to support individual development.

  • There are no formal entry requirements for this course

  • Learners should have an interest in sport and fitness

  • Willingness to participate in practical sessions is essential

Alongside the sport qualification, learners will study English and/or Maths until they achieve a Grade 4, if required.

This course will take one year to complete

This course provides a clear progression pathway into further education and training, including:

  • Level 2 Sport courses

  • Other vocational pathways at Leeds City College

  • Progression opportunities through Leeds United College

The course helps learners develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to move on to the next stage of education or training.
