Active Through Football is a fantastic opportunity for you to have your say and get active the way you want to. A shared love of football is bringing communities in Leeds together and making a real difference to people’s lives. No matter your skill level, the aim is to get people moving, so even if you have never kicked a ball or scored a goal before, there will be something for you.

The project is based in Burmantofts, Richmond Hill, Hunslet, Beeston & Holbeck and is for all participants aged 16+ who are looking to get more active and join fun sessions in their communities, while also having there say on what type of activities they require. The Active Through Football project is a 5 year community led project, funded by the Football Foundation, aimed at giving communities opportunities to come forward and create a difference for themselves through football.

Impact / Outcome

Active Through Football aims to improve people’s lives by creating more opportunities to become active. The projects main aim is to upskill individuals who show interest to learn more and be involved with the sessions and to create a session programme in each area that can be sustainable and carry on for many years after the 5-year project ends.

Our Premier League KICKS programme uses the power of football to support communities across Leeds by inspiring young people and breaking down barriers. Through our sessions we see improvements in young people’s football abilities by simply improving their self-confidence with a football at their feet and practicing with their peers. Our sessions also go further and through this increased confidence our participants also see improvements in academic achievements and increased leadership skills.

We engage with over 1,000 young people every year through structured activities and the scheme has enabled our young people to find routes into education, training and employment through volunteering opportunities.

The Leeds United Foundation KICKS programme aims to unite communities in the city of Leeds, through football based activities and is a tool to engage young people throughout the city. Not only that, but our free service makes the KICKS programme an open accessible opportunity to any young person in the local area that want to get involved in football and meet new people along the way.

Impact / Outcome

The aims and outcomes of our Premier League KICKS programme are:

  • Increase playing, coaching and officiating opportunities in football and a range of sports (8-18yrs)

  • Enhance physical and mental wellbeing, including self-esteem, ambition and social skills

  • Strengthen communities with a culture of volunteering, social action and positive role models – supporting education, training and employment pathways (focusing on 16-18)

  • Work in partnership with young people, the police and other stakeholders to support the younger generation with the societal challenges they face (eg youth violence) and to improve community safety

  • Inspire young people to develop positive, supportive relationships with one another and the authorities

Promote integration and champion equality, diversity and inclusion
