FOUR-STAR RESERVES
The reserves hammered four goals past Barnsley at Elland Road on Tuesday afternoon to record a comfortable win against the Championship side.
United dominated the contest from start to finish with Leon Constantine, Nathan Cartman, and Chris Ovington enjoying plenty of chances.
Leeds started the better of the two sides, and the only surprise was that it took a full 42 minutes before Neil Thompson's men got their noses in front.
Fabian Delph whipped over a corner, Seb Sorsa flicked the ball towards goal, and Ovington made sure on the goal-line.
That was a deserved lead to take into half-time, and the lead was doubled shortly after the break. Ollie Hotchkiss scored with a screamer with rattled the bar, following a cross from Sorsa.
Barnsley did pull a goal back with 16 minutes remaining when Luke Waterfall planted a looping header beyond the reach of Alan Martin, following a free-kick.
But three minutes later, the two-goal cushion was restored when Ovington latched onto a Cartman through ball before applying the finishing touch.
And the 4-1 rout was sealed five minutes from time when Sam Jerome played the ball low to the back post and Sorsa was on hand to score.
United: Martin, Gardner, White, Hotchkiss (Falkingham 96), Wilkinson, Milne, Sorsa, Delph, Constantine (Jerome 82), Ovington (Hatfield 81), Cartman. Subs: Edwards, Booth.
