Luke Varney joined the club in the summer of 2012, having been a long-time target for Neil Warnock.
Luke, who had scored 68 goals in 288 career appearances before joining Leeds, netted six goals in 28 starts for Portsmouth during 2011/12, and the manager identified him as one of his main summer targets.
Luke's Leeds introduction came during the pre-season tour of Cornwall and he made a scoring debut in a 4-0 win at Bodmin Town.
Luke started his career at Crewe in 2003 and after a £2m move to Charlton he has enjoyed spells with Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, and made 30 Premier League appearances for Blackpool, scoring five goals.
Luke was quick to open up his United account as he scored against Shrewsbury Town on his debut for the club.
The highlight of Luke's first season at United came in April when he scored a brace to secure a 2-1 victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday, which was also Brian McDermott's first game in charge.
