United reserves went down 2-1 to title chasing Hartlepool United on Wednesday night.
Tom Elliott bagged the Leeds goal at Victoria Park, but two Matty Tymon goals proved decisive to earn the home side the three points.
Tymon opened the scoring after 24 minutes when he headed home a Michael Mackay cross, and the youngster made sure of the win on 60 minutes when he stepped up to convert a penalty after being brought down by Alan Martin.
In between, Elliott scored with a volley from distance four minutes before half-time. The striker's shot from the edge of the box somehow crept through the legs of Hartlepool goalkeeper Jan Budtz.
United had taken a young side to face a team who are hoping to win the Pontin's League title, and Irish youth international Shane O'Connor, a 17-year-old midfielder on trial from Liverpool, was in the starting line-up.
The home side made a determined start and were lifted by the early goal, but Seb Sorsa had a couple of shots for United and Elliott also headed over the top.
After Tymon cancelled out Elliott's equaliser in the second period, United finished the game strongly and had the home side on the back foot.
Elliott continued to cause problems with his height and substitute Chris Ovington tested Budtz with a stinging drive.
Hartlepool were forced into plenty of defending, but they were rewarded for a dogged second period by holding on to collect the points.
United: Martin, Gardner, Darville, Hotchkiss, Wilkinson, Milne, Sorsa, Delph, Elliott, Cartman, O'Connor (Ovington 62). Subs: Edwards, Fisher, Falkingham, Connor.
