Tore Andre Flo celebrates against Southend

A host of senior players gained some much-needed match fitness as the reserves went down 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night.

Alan Thompson and Mark De Vries both completed the full 90 minutes while Radostin Kishishev featured for 80 minutes and Tore Andre Flo played for over an hour.

Boss Dennis Wise used the game as a fitness exercise for his senior squad members ahead of a busy December, and will be pleased that all came through without any problems.

The Owls also had a handful of players with first team experience and it was one of those, Wade Small, who put the visitors ahead in the first half.

Thompson, Flo and Curtis Weston all responded with long range efforts for United, while Flo also forced Owls goalkeeper Phillip Birch into making a good second half save after some great work by De Vries.

But Wednesday made sure of the win with 20 minutes remaining when David McClements turned and shot, leaving Jonathan Lund with no chance.

Filipe Da Costa, making his return from suspension, fired over the top in the final minute, but there was no back for the United side.

United: Lund, Madden, Huntington, Parker, Westlake (Fisher 45), Weston, Thompson, Kishishev (Bayly 80), Da Costa, De Vries, Flo (Rothery 70). Subs: Edwards, Elliott.
