New signing Casper Ankergren was quickly back in a Leeds United shirt on Monday night when he played the opening 45 minutes of the final pre-season friendly against Guiseley.
The Danish international, who joined the club from Brondby on Monday afternoon, was thrust straight into action at Nethermoor, just two hours after penning a three-year contract with United.
The goalkeeper's surprise appearance against the UniBond League outfit helped boost the crowd, and the kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes to allow the fans to pass through the gates.
After a demanding pre-season, it was no real surprise to see Dennis Wise field a young side for the clash with the non-league outfit, and the youngsters showed plenty of energy during a goalless first half.
The infuential Rob Bayly, skippering the side, went close with one effort, Fabian Delph tried his luck from distance with a low drive, and home goalkeeper Steve Dickinson made a great save to deny Nathan Cartman.
In reply, Guiseley's chances were limited to long-range efforts and Ankergren had little to do until moments before half-time when the home side took a shock lead.
Richard Dunning was the scorer when he dispatched a free-kick from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Dennis Wise made a couple of changes at half-time, a trialist defender replaced Duane Grace while Damien Ross was handed his first run-out in place of summer signing Ankergren.
But the hosts doubled their advantage just 13 minutes into the second half when Rob Pell headed home a corner from just inside the box
Tom Elliott went close to pulling a goal back on 69 minutes when Dickinson saved his header, and the midfield duo of Bayly and Gavin Rothery continued to drive United on as they looked to get back into the contest.
The appearance of a streaker halted proceedings late on, much to the amusement of the crowd, but while Guiseley continued to look lively and United pushed and probed, there were no further goals at Nethermoor.
