Paul Huntington celebrates at Millwall

Gary McAllister praised his players for sticking to their task at Millwall on Saturday.

Goals from David Prutton and Andrew Hughes secured a vital 2-0 win at the Den in front of a fervent home support.

The Den saw its largest crowd of the season by some margin and Millwall, who are battling against relegation, belied their lowly league position by playing some terrific football before being sunk by two late goals.

"We scored two wonderful goals, but you have to say we rode our luck," conceded the United boss.

"Millwall were excellent, they had a fantastic crowd in, and you have to wonder why they are near relegation when they play like that.

"The momentum was with them. At half-time some of the players were worried that we hadn't got going, but they played some good stuff and put us under plenty of pressure...

"...But we scored two good goals and got back on the bus to Yorkshire."

It was Prutts who eased the tension when he lashed the ball home from outside the box on 70 minutes.

"From the second it left his boot it was a goal," said the manager. "He was focused, showed good technique, and the important thing when you get the ball out there is not to swing."

And nine minutes later it was all over when substitute Hughesy popped to score his first goal for the club.

"He's always disappointed when he isn't in the starting 11," said Macca. "But you know what you're going to get from him.

"You could tell by his celebration he was delighted. It was a super build-up and a super finish."

The game also marked a first for Jonny Howson with the youngster sporting the captain's armband for the full 90 minutes.

"He's played in every game since I arrived here," added the boss.

"I've never hidden how much potential I see in this guy. One game as captain and one win - that's a 100 per cent record."
