Malcolm Christie

Former Middlesbrough and Derby County striker Malcolm Christie was handed an outing in Leeds United's reserve team at Scunthorpe on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old has been working on his fitness at Thorp Arch for the past few months after previously having a trial with the club during the tenure of former manager Dennis Wise.

Christie, who won 11 caps as an England under-21 international, has been without a club since his departure from Boro in 2007 and was given clearance to play in a game at reserve level for United.

Manager Gary McAllister explained: "As I said a few weeks ago Malcolm has been using the facilities at Thorp Arch to train and work on his fitness.

"It was a courtesy gesture by the club after he picked up an injury when he was here a while ago.

"He's been working hard and he's now got himself to a level where we can give him a game so he will play in the reserves on Tuesday."

The reserves travelled to Scunthorpe on Tuesday night and Neil Thompson's side slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
