Jermaine Beckford celebrates his opener against Brighton

United boss Gary McAllister was quick to hail his players after Saturday's 3-1 Elland Road success against Brighton.

After losing back-to-back games for the first time during Macca's tenure as manager, two Jermaine Beckford goals and one from Luciano Becchio proved enough to guide United to victory against Brighton on Saturday.

"Two defeats in a row hasn't happened since I've been here and the thought of losing three wasn't in the equation," said the boss.

"It was a fantastic three points, but the performance was there as well and I felt we deserved it.

"We prompted and probed and played some good stuff, and I felt it was a matter of time and we were wearing them down.

"The goals were excellent - the second was a fantastic goal with the movement from our half and the delivery."

The only blot came deep in stoppage time when Glenn Murray was gifted a consolation goal for the visitors.

"It was exactly the same feeling as when Crewe scored late against us, and Rui was disappointed," said the boss.

"After taking criticism in the week they responded in the way I would have liked and were commanding for the biggest part."
