MONK PLEASED WITH BACKROOM STAFF

Garry Monk glad to have coaching team in place ahead of the new season...

United boss Garry Monk is pleased to have his backroom staff in place following this week’s appointment of James Beattie as first-team coach.

The former England striker follows assistant coach Pep Clotet and goalkeeping coach Darryl Flahavan in joining Monk at Elland Road this summer.

The new coaching team, who - Flahavan aside - worked together at Swansea City, have linked up with the exisiting first-team staff at Thorp Arch, and Monk has been delighted with how things have taken shape.

“We’re complete staff-wise and that’s good,” the head coach told leedsunited.com. “It’s important to try and get it settled as early as possible so that everyone knows their role, their jobs and how to deliver the plan that I have.

“It’s all set up now – I’ve got the first-team staff set up in the way that I want and ready to work.

“The guys that I’ve brought in with me have that experience of working with me and understanding what I demand. It’s important to have those relationships.

“The staff that were already here have also been great and I think we’ve moulded a very good first-team coaching set up.

“That’s right down through everyone at the club, from people behind the scenes to the first-team environment at Thorp Arch. I’m really happy with it and those relationships will grow and grow.

“Everyone is on the same page and everyone understands what I’m looking for. We’re all ready to try and deliver.

“It’s not just the players who we want to have a real spirit when they work - the staff need that togetherness as well.

“The reaction from the players has been great so far – they’ve got a really good attitude.

“We’ve got a lot to work on but so far, so good. They’ve all come back in good condition and they’ve taken on board the information that I’ve given to them.”
