REDFEARN READY FOR CARDIFF TEST

Neil Redfearn gives his thoughts ahead of the trip to Cardiff...

Caretaker head coach Neil Redfearn says his side have been in good spirits ahead of Saturday’s (3pm) trip to Cardiff despite their worrying record against the South Wales club.

United have not beaten the Welsh side since a 1-0 Second Division win in February 1984 and have managed to collect just two points from the last 10 meetings between the two.

Russell Slade's side, who currently occupy 11th in the Championship table, suffered relegation from the Premier League last season but are widely tipped for a quick return.

However, Redfearn believes his men will show no fear as they look to end not only their unwanted record against Cardiff, but also a run of six league games without a win.

"We’re due to win one there," said Redfearn. "We’ve got to make sure we go there with that mentality.

"We’ve got to go and get at them, make sure they know they’re in the game.

"To be fair, the lads have been really upbeat. There’s no lack of confidence and there’s a desire to go and get a result.

"It’s up to me to make sure we’re organised and we’ve got a game plan."

Redfearn enjoyed success during his last spell in caretaker charge, picking up 10 points from a possible 12, and is hoping to pick up where he left off at the Cardiff City Stadium.

"We’ve got to go down the same lines, we’ve got to make training upbeat," he said.

"We’ve got to get back to the same message about having the ball and being able to play with the ball.

"The same work ethic – we can’t cut corners. We’ve got to do the hard yards.

"Then they know full well they’re well-equipped to earn their luck. The stronger you are and the more committed you are and the braver you are, the luckier you get.

"Sometimes that just tips a game and the balance to get a result."
