PROUD MOMENT FOR REDFEARN

PROUD MOMENT FOR REDFEARN

Head coach ready for first Elland Road game since taking charge...

Neil Redfearn says it will be a “proud moment” when he takes charge of his first game at Elland Road as the club’s full-time head coach, although he does anticipate a tough test from Charlton.

Redfearn is no stranger to the Elland Road dug-out following his previous caretaker spells and time as part of the backroom staff, but Tuesday night’s game will be his first time since replacing Darko Milanic.

"It’ll be a proud moment for me," said Redfearn. "It’s a great club and the fanbase is fantastic, it’s second to none.

"If Leeds United was a Premier League club, it would be a top Premier League club. Before a ball is kicked, it’s a big club.

"The people that support the club are passionate about the football club. It’s their lives and they want to see success again.

"For me, we’re right at the beginning. We’ve got to start putting the work ethic back in place and get the players to start having that belief again."

Charlton have collected just one win in any of their last five outings but they currently occupy ninth in the Championship table following a bright start to the campaign.

"They’re a good side, it’s going to be a difficult game for us," he said. "We’ve talked about how difficult a game Cardiff was going to be and Charlton are above them.

"I’m aware of them and what they do and how they play, but I’m more interested in us.

"I’m more interested in the improvements that we make. I want to get us back on track and get us playing good football.

"I want us to be entertaining, scoring goals and I want us to win. I want us to get this winning mentality back. We’ve got to do it."
