GIBBS LOOKING FOR STRONG FINISH

Nigel Gibbs looking to build on Blackpool victory…

United’s assistant manager Nigel Gibbs is hoping the side can build on Saturday’s victory and end the season with a strong finish.

Saturday saw United pick up three points for the first time in six league matches with an improved performance against Blackpool and Gibbs now wants consistency in the final four games of the season.

“It’s always good to win and it was an important game for us to win,” said Nigel. “The performance was good as well which is always pleasing.

“It makes a difference after a victory in the build up to the next game because you have got those three points.

“I think everyone knew the importance of the game. It wasn’t a nice run that we were on. It is now about consistency and finishing the season strongly.

“We have said to the boys that we want to build on the Blackpool result.

“We want to finish the season as strong as we can and we’ll be looking to win every game. It is not always possible but we have to keep putting in performances like we did on Saturday."

The Easter weekend sees United travel to Barnsley on Saturday (3pm) and will then entertain Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Monday (5.15pm) in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The United assistant has spoken of the importance of recovery between the two games but insists the team will be looking for two victories.

“It is important that you do the work on the training pitch,” said Gibbs. “It will be a quick turnaround with a game on Saturday and Monday.

“We will be in on the Sunday to recover after Saturday to make sure everyone is ready for Monday evening’s game. It is another busy period and it is important that we make sure that the lads are fresh for both matches.

“It is a big game for Barnsley this weekend, but it is a big game for us as well. It is another tough game and both teams want to win.

“The same goes for Monday. We want to put a good show on for our home fans.

“It is two tough games and we’ll be looking to use the result against Blackpool as something to build on.”
