MURPHY - A LONG TIME COMING

Luke Murphy on Saturday’s win over Blackpool…

United midfielder Luke Murphy says it was great to have the winning feeling again at the weekend.

The midfielder scored a fantastic double against relegation threatened Blackpool and said the victory was thoroughly deserved.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had the winning feeling,” said Murphy. “It’s been a long time since we came away from a game with all three points.

“I thought that we thoroughly deserved it and I’m made up for all the lads, the manager and everyone involved, including the fans.

“It’s been tough. We’ve all been trying but in some games it hasn’t been good enough. In other games things haven’t gone our way but that’s football.

“You have to pull up your socks and roll up your sleeves and you’ll get that bit of luck to come away with three points.”

Saturday’s two goal victory was United’s first win in six games and preparation was key to the success.

“We wanted to start the game quick with a high tempo,” added the midfielder. “We watched a few DVDs of Blackpool and we knew that they try to pass the ball out. We put them under pressure and caught them off guard.

“It was a great ball from Ross for the first one and I had a bit of a bad touch. I thought that if I’d have shot straight away the defender would have blocked it.

“So I did a little dummy and checked back and they fell for it and I slotted the ball away.

“For the second it was a great ball forward from Leesy and then Noel beat his man to win the flick on. And then I just dinked it over the keeper.”

The midfielder admits to being frustrated at his goal tally for the season but is now wanting a strong finish to the campaign.

“It’s been frustrating going from scoring goals last season to coming here and not really affecting the game with my goals,” said Luke.

“It was good on Saturday as Browny gave us some security so me and Michael Tonge could get forward and into the box. Hopefully we’ll be able to carry on doing that.

“We need to go into every game thinking that we can get the three points to finish as high as possible.

“From a personal point of view I’d like to add a few more goals to my tally before the end of the season.”
