DAWSON AND WALTERS VISIT ST MARYS

Leeds United Stars ‘Take it to the Kids’ at St. Mary’s Primary School...

Leeds United youngsters Chris Dawson and Lewis Walters were in Boston Spa last week as the first team pair dropped in to St Mary’s Primary School to take part in a Leeds United Foundation ‘Taking it to the Kids’ session.

Joining the kids for one of their weekly coaching sessions, Dawson and Walters were a big hit with students in attendance, hosting a question and answer session before joining in on the pitch during the end of session matches.

Dawson commented: “It’s a pleasure to be here today to support the Leeds United Foundation’s Taking it to the Kids Programme. I’ve been really impressed with the enthusiasm and energy of all the kids taking part today.  They all seem to have learnt some new things and asked some really interesting questions.”

Run in partnership with Network Rail, NHS Trust Leeds and the Premier League (PL4 Schools), The Leeds United Foundation’s Taking it to the Kids programme sees Foundation coaches host sessions at primary schools throughout the region as they guide children through topics including Rail track safety, the benefits of healthy eating and regular exercise and how to improve their skills on the pitch.

Walters added: “As a graduate of the clubs academy system it’s great to see programmes like Taking it to the Kids providing opportunities for young kids in Leeds to get involved with the game and improve their skills. Programmes like this one play a key role in helping to develop a bigger playing pool throughout the city; you just never know where Leeds next big star will come from.”

Now in its second year the Leeds United Foundation’s 'Taking it to the Kids' Programme has so far visited over 250 Leeds based primary schools, positively impacting on the lives of over ten thousand five to eleven year old children.

Leeds United Foundation Football Development Manager Gary Waddington heads up the ‘Taking it to the Kids’ Programme and he said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to both Chris and Lewis for coming down to spend some time with us at St Mary’s today.  The kids were really excited to meet them both and seem to have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them.”
