MOWATT A DOUBT FOR DERBY MATCH

Alex Mowatt could feature against Huddersfield…

United midfielder Alex Mowatt missed the trip to Bournemouth in midweek with a toe injury and he remains a doubt ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire derby.

United host Huddersfield Town at Elland Road (3pm) and caretaker head coach Neil Redfearn says Mowatt, who was our scorer against Birmingham City last weekend, could make a return to action.

“We have got to be mindful of what we do with Alex Mowatt,” said Redfearn. “The good news is that it is not as bad as we first feared.

“It will be days rather than weeks that he will be out.

“We’re not sure if he will make the Huddersfield game yet.

“Also, Sam Byram has come back into the frame, he got a little knock on Tuesday but we think that he will be fine.”

Following Tuesday’s long trip to Bournemouth the United staff have monitored the players and Redfearn says his squad will be ready.

“The lads that played on Tuesday night had a lighter session on Thursday as they didn’t get back until four in the morning after the Bournemouth game,” said the caretaker boss.

“And the lads that didn’t make the trip worked hard on Thursday.

“So on Friday everyone will be at the same level and we’ll be ready for the weekend.”
