BOLTON: GREEN EYES RETURN

Republic of Ireland international ready for return to league action…

United and Republic of Ireland midfielder Paul Green is ready for this weekend's return to Sky Bet Championship action after the international break.

The midfielder was one of three United players away representing their countries and he returned to the training ground on Thursday.

Paul was an unused substitute for the Republic’s first match, but played the full game when they travelled to Austria on Tuesday evening.

“I’m fit and well,” said the midfielder. “I got back into training on Thursday and all is good.

“Obviously you like to get your rest in. The training isn’t that intense but it is the travelling that takes it out of you more than anything.”

Following Paul’s return to the United set-up Giovanni Trapattoni lost his job as the national manager and the midfielder is happy that Brian McDermott is to remain at the helm of the Elland Road club.

“There was talk about it before he got the Leeds job that he might be going in for the Ireland job,” said Green. “But he is here doing a job.

“He has been fantastic to me since he has come in. He has changed it all around and we are going well under him, hopefully that will continue.

“When he came in for the last five games of last season we started to play a new style. We got three good results in those games and we have started pretty well this season.

“We’ve got a big game this weekend against Bolton and hopefully we can get a result there.”

United’s return to Championship action sees a visit to the Reebok Stadium to face bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers.

The Trotters currently hold up the rest of the Sky Bet Championship with two points to their name but the United midfielder feels it will be a tough away test.

“Last season our away record wasn’t the best,” said Paul. “That is something that we have talked about and it is starting to come around now and hopefully we can get something on Saturday.

“People are looking at the table at this early stage but there is nothing to look at really. They’ll be worried if they are still there come January and onwards.

“We know that it is going to be a tough game as they have got a lot of quality players but we’ll be ready for it.”
