WOOD FULL OF PRAISE FOR UNITED DISPLAY

WOOD FULL OF PRAISE FOR UNITED DISPLAY

Striker reflects on Saturday's 2-0 victory at Hillsborough...

Chris Wood believes Saturday’s display at Sheffield Wednesday is among the best performances he’s seen from a United team since arriving at the club just over a year ago.

Wood wrapped things up at Hillsborough with five minutes remaining on the clock, guiding home Kemar Roofe’s low cross from close-range to seal an impressive 2-0 victory over last season’s beaten play-off finalists.

And the striker, who took his tally to three for the campaign with his second goal in as many matches, was full of praise for his side’s showing and feels the team is getting stronger with every game.

“It’s nice personally to be among the goals, but the team performance was the highlight on Saturday,” said Wood.

“Saturday’s performance was up there as one of the best performances I’ve seen during my time here.

“It’s nice to see that we’re taking a step forward every time we go out on that pitch. Every single game, to me, feels like we’re getting stronger and stronger. That’s the main thing.

“We’re starting to pick up the manager’s ideas and that’s showing on the pitch. We were much more solid on Saturday, taking on another element.

“We’ve still got things to learn and he’s got more ideas – that’s going to take time if we’re to progress forward with them.”

Reflecting on his goal, which he celebrated in front of the travelling fans at Hillsborough, Wood added: “It was nice to join the fans for the celebration and show a bit of support back to them. I want to put any frustrations behind me.

“I want to play good football and entertain this crowd – all I want to do is to do well for them.

“I’m going to take it one game at time. Tuesday is going to be another tough game at Luton – they did over Aston Villa in the last round, so it will be very tough at their place.

“But we’re up for it. We’re coming off the back of a very good win at Sheffield Wednesday and we’re looking forward to it.”
