Midfielder pushing for a place in the team after Reading victory...

Casper Sloth is hoping to force his way into the starting line-up after stepping off the bench to make a positive impression in Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at Reading.

Sloth, a summer signing from Danish side Aarhus, replaced the injured Tommaso Bianchi midway through the first half and helped United secure a precious away win at the Madejski Stadium.

The 22-year-old was involved in the build-up for Luke Murphy's opening goal, and says he was pleased to be back involved and able to play his part in the hard-fought win.

"It wasn’t the greatest game or the greatest pitch but we got the three points and that’s what matters, especially where we are in the table at the moment," said Sloth.

"It was good for me. It’s about getting minutes and getting games so I hope I can get more games now.

"I think I got an assist so that’s always good.

"The most important thing is that we got the three points. Everyone really worked together as a team and showed character, so that’s good."

The Danish midfielder’s substitute appearance was his 12th outing in a United shirt so far this season, and he is now keen to really make his mark on the side.

"I think I’ve played some alright games but sometimes you are out of the team and that’s how football is," he said.

"I just do my best in training and do my best when I get the chance. Hopefully I can get more games."

Sloth also enjoyed the wild celebrations which ensued after Byram had notched the second, with the majority of outfield players finding themselves among the ecstatic 2,602 visiting supporters.

"That’s what you train for every day," he said.

"We have got great support wherever we go so it’s great to get some wins – it’s good for everyone.

The midfielder added: "It’s so tight in this league and we’ve got another important game on Saturday against Millwall so we’ll just have to carry on."
