Former full-back announces retirement from football...

Former United full-back Ian Harte has today announced his retirement from football.

Harte, 37, Tweeted to say: "The time has come to hang the boots up. I have had over 20 years playing football and loved every minute of it!!! Now to the next chapter.”

The left-back moved to Elland Road from Irish side Home Farm in 1995 and soon became a key part of the United side which went on to chase European and Premier League glory.

Harte, renowned for his stunning free-kicks, made 288 appearances, scoring 39 times, during his nine-year stint in West Yorkshire.

He then headed to Spain to join La Liga outfit Levante, before returning to England for spells with Sunderland, Blackpool, Carlisle United and Reading.

He ended his impressive career as part of Bournemouth’s historic Premier League promotion-winning squad last season.

We would like to thank Ian for the fond memories he provided during his time at the club and wish him the very best for the future.
