SAM AIMS HIGH FOR 2015/16

Right-winger discusses his targets for the new season...

Sam Byram has set his targets high for 2015/16, saying that he and his team-mates have "got to look towards getting promotion" as they prepare to return to pre-season training at Thorp Arch.

The right-winger is hoping to see a big improvement on last season’s 15th-place finish in the Championship and believes that the club has been “making moves in the right direction” with its business so far this summer.

Sam, who featured 39 times during the last campaign, scoring three goals, is now eager to get back into the routine after enjoying his summer break.

“I’ve had chance to get away and go on a few holidays – it’s nice to have a breather and get some sun after the season but I’m back now and ready to work towards pre-season,” he said.

“I’ve been doing runs and trying to keep fit in the days I’ve been back in the country. I’ve managed to keep myself in a shape where I can build from here.

“I haven’t met Uwe Rosler yet so I’m looking forward to getting back to pre-season and trying to impress him throughout the month.”

Asked about his ambitions for the season ahead, Sam added: “As a team, we’ve got to look towards getting promotion. That’s the main focus.

“From a personal point of view, I want to keep trying to improve and play as many games as I can.”

Not only will Sam be looking to catch the eye of the new head coach, the 21-year-old also has new faces in the backroom to make an impression on.

“There’s new staff that have come in as well so I’m looking forward to getting back in and meeting all the new players as well,” he said.

“It shows that the club are making moves in the right direction. They’re bringing people in that have got experience and young players to add to the squad. These are all good things.”

On the pre-season schedule, Sam added: “I think it’s the best pre-season fixtures we’ve had for a while.

“There are some good teams in there so it’ll be a test for the boys – I’m really looking forward to it.”
