GREAT VIBE AROUND THE CLUB - PURVER

United midfielder excited for the future after signing new deal...

Young midfielder Alex Purver has spoken of his delight at signing a new contract with his boyhood team and says there is a "great vibe around the club" as preparations continue for 2015/16.

Alex, 19, officially penned a new-one year deal at Elland Road last week after agreeing fresh terms earlier in the summer.

The Thorp Arch product, who captained the Under-21s during the last campaign, is now looking to mount a first-team push after linking back up with the squad for pre-season training.

“I’ve been a big Leeds fan since I’ve been following football so I’m delighted to get another year here - somewhere I’ve really enjoyed playing and I’m looking forward to kicking on this year,” he said.

Asked about his realistic target for the new season, Alex replied: “To break into the first-team squad.

“I’ve travelled with the first-team squad a few times but to make my debut and then be a regular in the squad is a realistic target for me.

“I had a good season and being captain of the Under-21s was brilliant.

“We did well as a team and travelling with the squad, being around the first team and training with them was good. It’s just about working hard and kicking on to make next season even better.”

Alex has already set his sights on catching the eye of new head coach Uwe Rosler over the summer, and the midfielder says that he and his team-mates are "buzzing" about the months ahead.

“I’m really excited. Everything I’ve heard and read on Uwe has been really positive,” he said. “I can’t wait to just get back, make the right impression and kick on this season.

“There’s a great vibe around the club - everyone is really buzzing.

“I was speaking to the lads today, everyone is really excited to get back going with the new season and there’s a real good feel about the place.”

And to fulfil his ambitions of first-team football, Alex is confident he is at the right club to do so.

“You can see a pathway, a light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

“I know people at other clubs who are working hard and they don’t see anyone get through to the first team.

“But at this club it’s had a great history and at the moment it’s progressing people through the academy into the first team.

“It makes you think that if you work hard, it’s definitely there. It’s been proven in the past few years.”
