DEFENDER OPEN TO LOAN MOVE

DEFENDER OPEN TO LOAN MOVE

Young defender looking for regular football…

Young professional Ross Killock is open to the possibility of another loan move away from Elland Road in order to gain more senior experience.

The 19-year-old joined the senior squad on the pre-season tour of Slovenia, but hasn’t been in manager Brian McDermott’s plans so far this term.

The defender has been in good form recently for the Development Squad and he admits a loan move could be the way to go in order to continue his development.

“I think I did ok on the tour but I didn’t play my best football,” said Ross of his pre-season preparations. “The Under-21 games are good but it would be ideal if I can go out on loan.

“That way I would gain more experience in a first team environment then come back and see what happens.

“In my position at the back you come up against experienced guys in the lower divisions that have been around the block so it is good to get out and play.

“I went to Alfreton last season in the Conference Premier so if I could go higher that would be ideal but I’d be happy to back to the same level and just play regularly.”

One example of how a loan move can benefit a player is current United centre-back Tom Lees.

Tom had loan spells at Accrington and Bury and since his return the defender has been a regular fixture in the first team at Elland Road.

“Tom went to Accrington and Bury on loan and won promotion at Bury,” said Ross.

“After those spells he came back and went straight into the First Team so if I could do something like that it would be ideal.

“I just want to get playing football on a regular basis.

“I look up to Leesy, Pearce, Pelts and Scotty Wootton who has come in recently. I’m just looking to learn what I can.”
