WOOTTON AGREES EXTENDED UNITED STAY

Defender agrees contract extension at Elland Road...

Defender Scott Wootton has agreed a one-year contract extension to keep him at Elland Road until summer 2017.

Wootton, a summer 2013 arrival from Manchester United, was previously under contract until 2016 after joining on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old has been a regular in the United side since completing a successful emergency loan spell at Championship rivals Rotherham in January.

Having impressed in his seven games for the Millers, Wootton has been ever-present at right back upon his return to Elland Road and has helped Neil Redfearn’s side win five of the last six games.

“He’s done great, he’s one of these that has come back," said Redfearn.

“It’s been like having a new signing to be honest because he’s been out and got some games.

“It was important for Scott to play and he’s come back and he looks better for it.

“It was always the intention to bring him back.

“I think he needed some games at that point, but he’s been outstanding in our last few games.

“He’s been a real plus. He’s a good footballer, he’s got physical presence.

“He can play full-back or centre back and he’s done really well at right back.”
