HEAD COACH LOOKS TO FIRST GAME

United’s first pre-season game on Thursday...

United head coach David Hockaday insists that Thursday evening’s game against FC Gherdeina forms a major part of the club’s pre-season schedule.

The game against Gherdeina will be Hockaday’s first game in charge of United and the new head coach is focusing solely on his playing squad.

“My thought process is that this game forms a part of our pre-season training,” said David. “Since we have been here we have been training three times a day on most days.

“The training has been hard work, both mentally and physically.

“The game is one session of a number of sessions during pre-season.

“We obviously want to do well, play well and keep a clean sheet, all the usual stuff. But for me this is just part of the pre-season training process.”

United’s opposition are the local side for where the squad are based in Italy and it is likely that the head coach will play two separate elevens in either half of the match.

“This game is all about us” added the United head coach. “We need to look at our fitness levels and the way that we want to play.

“We’ll be looking to have a good tempo to the game. That is what it is all about, it’s all about us.”

The game kicks off at 5.30pm local time, 4.30pm UK time.
