DERBY: DECISIONS TO BE MADE - UWE

Head coach provides team news ahead of Saturday's iPro Stadium trip...

Uwe Rosler faces somewhat of a selection dilemma for Saturday’s lunchtime visit to Derby County, with the head coach admitting "there will be some difficult decisions to be made".

Midfield pair Lewis Cook and Luke Murphy are both vying for places in the starting line-up after returning from suspension and injury respectively.

But positive displays in their absence – with United still unbeaten in the league - have pleased the head coach, giving him plenty to think about when it comes to picking his team on Saturday.

“In principle, I think the performance level shown throughout the hectic schedule was good in general,” Rosler said, speaking ahead of the televised iPro Stadium trip.

“That makes it hard for me in terms of players providing competition for each other.

“I have to take into consideration how I want to play and what our gameplan will be. There will be some difficult decisions to be made.”

Cook was suspended for the trips to Reading and Bristol City, as well as last weekend’s Yorkshire derby at home to Sheffield Wednesday, after being shown a straight red card in the recent Capital One Cup tie at Doncaster Rovers.

Rosler said: “Every team would miss a player like Lewis, he is unique. He has that dynamism and technical ability.

“He also has that desire to win the ball.

“I was very, very happy to see him score his first professional goal. That is what we worked on throughout the whole pre-season – for him to realise that he can be a goal threat.

“He scored the goal and he was a little bit too excited after that.”

On Murphy, who completed 90 minutes for the Under-21s on Monday, Rosler added: “He is very close. He’s ahead of schedule.

“We always felt that it would be after the international break when he would be ready to start games.

“Now he’s very close to starting games and he’s definitely in contention to start on Saturday.”
