CONFIDENCE IS KEY – WARNOCK

Stephen Warnock on United’s start to the season…

United defender Stephen Warnock has spoken about the importance confidence plays in a successful team.

United’s have had an indifferent start to the season and currently sit in 18th place in the Sky Bet Championship having recorded two victories.

Stephen who scored the winning goal on Saturday says the Bolton result was an important one as it keeps the side in touching distance with the rest of the Championship.

“The quality has always been there it is about bringing it out and to give it confidence,” said Warnock. “That is one of the biggest things the old manager was trying to do.

“He wanted to install that confidence. Sometimes it’s not as easy as people say.

“Once you have lost a couple of games it is about building that confidence up again and putting it into the players. We knew we weren’t far off a good result and we were unlucky in the games before Bolton with sending offs as they cost us dearly.

“So we knew it wasn’t far away and thankfully it came on Saturday.

“We needed the win because we didn’t want to be looking up the table and thinking that we need points to get us back up. You don’t want to fall away, you want to be up and around it.

“It was an important win as Bolton are on a rocky road so to get that win and push them below us is a good result.”

As well as confidence the full-back says it is important that the players stick together as the club’s search for a new head coach continues.

“As players we have got to stick together as a team and we are very united” added Warnock.

“Anyone that comes to the training ground will see that we are very together. We try not to let anyone disrupt us.

“That was installed by the old manager and that has stuck with the players so that is a good thing.”
