Academy lads handed professional deals...

Coker Tiesse

Teenage duo Afolabi Coker and Smith Tiesse have become the latest Academy prospects to sign professional contracts with the club.

The duo, who marked their first year as scholars by being a part of the Under-18s title winning squad, have signed one-year professional contracts which will commence next summer.

Coker is a centre-back while Tiesse is a left back, and both players impressed during the first year of their scholarship. Now, they are looking to continue to develop their careers as Leeds United prospects.

"I'm delighted to sign," said Smith. "I've learnt a lot from the coaches here, and they've really helped me, and worked on my weaknesses.

"Pre-season has been hard, but I'm looking forward to getting a few games under my belt and hopefully pushing on in the 21s. My main aims are to push on, do well and try and impress the coaches.

"The club is interested in the youth and when you get your chance you have to make the most of it."

"I'm delighted," said Afolabi, who signed scholarship forms last summer after impressing while on trial.

"Richard (Naylor) was a centre back and he has taught me a lot of things, and it's been good working with him. Last season was a great experience.

"Hopefully we can win the league again this season, and hopefully I can play a few games in the Under-21s. When you see the players come through here, you hope that chance will come and you have to take it."
