BELIEF IS GROWING - REDFEARN

Head coach in positive mood ahead of the Yorkshire derby...

Neil Redfearn feels the belief is growing within his squad as they travel to Huddersfield Town looking to secure a second league double of the season.

United come into the Yorkshire derby on the back of an impressive home win over league leaders Bournemouth and a run of three Championship games unbeaten following December’s dip in form.

Redfearn’s side have been afforded an extended rest period after having no game last weekend, and the head coach says the players are now raring for a return to action on Saturday.

"We’ve had a good week building up to the Huddersfield game," he said.

"The lads had a bit of a rest after the Bournemouth game – I thought it was important coming off the back of four tough games, but then we’ve had a tough week again this week.

"We’ve been back on it. We’re building up to a game that we’re all really looking forward to.

"I think they’re getting a little bit more belief about themselves, you can see that.

"They’re getting to grips with how we play, our strengths and weaknesses and how we can make it better. It’s been a good week."

Redfearn now wants his side to continue their upward trajectory after collecting five points from the last three games, but anticipates the season continuing to throw up the unexpected.

"We’re not out of the woods, we know that," said Redfearn.

"There are going to be a lot of twists and turns between now and the end of the season.

"We know there are going to be some games where we expect to win and we get beat, and we know there will be games where we don’t expect to take anything from them and we win.

"It’s going to be one of those types of seasons. But we’ve got to be tough and we’ve got to be focused.

"We’ve got to take something out of every game that we play in."

The head coach has had his options boosted by the loan arrivals of Palermo duo Sol Bamba and Granddi Ngoyi, with the pair looking to make their United debuts at Huddersfield.

Redfearn said: "They’ve settled in well.

"Sol has come in to add competition at the back and Granddi has come in to tighten things up in midfield and give us options there.

"They’re both experienced boys at different levels so it gives us options."

On Bamba, the head coach added: "He brings physical presence at 6”4. He’s got pace, he’s quick and gives us a different dimension at the back.

"He’s experienced. He understands the division and he understands the level.

"He’s a good person as well, he’s got a good way about him."
