REDFEARN LOOKING FOR A PERFORMANCE

Neil Redfearn on Birmingham City trip…

Caretaker head coach Neil Redfearn has been preparing the squad during the international break and says he wants a performance at Birmingham this weekend.

It is “as you were” for Redfearn who will take charge of the first team for the second time during this caretaker spell, and he has praised the efforts shown by the players.

“It is basically quite simple, it is as you were,” said Redfearn. “It has been a case of preparing the lads for the next game and the next game is Birmingham City.

“We have had an international break which has helped us get some good work done.

“I think that the lads have worked really well and they look like they have enjoyed their football which is good. We have had a good couple of weeks.

“They are a good set of lads to work with because they are quite balanced as a squad."

Birmingham are just two league places below United in the Championship table but Redfearn will be concentrating on his side.

“We’ve looked at Birmingham and what they do but we are more interested in us and what we do and how we perform on the day,” added Neil. “We want the lads to play again and we want them to get it down and pass it.

“We want to be in control of the ball and if we can we want to dictate the game and the tempo.

“Hopefully we’ll go into the game with the same attitude we had at the Bolton game and go on a put in a performance.”

United and Birmingham are the lunchtime kick off on Saturday (12.15pm) in front of the Sky Sports cameras and Redfearn says the players need to do themselves justice.

“The responsibility lies with the players,” stated the caretaker boss. “They are the ones that cross that white line and turn-out and perform.

“We set them up, organise them and give them a game plan but on the day it is down to them to go and apply themselves.

“This is a great game for them to go and pay in. It is on Sky and they could do themselves the power of good if they perform.

“It should be a game they are looking forward to.”
