EVANS KEEN TO SEE POSITIVE RESPONSE

The head coach previews Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday...

Steve Evans is keen to for his side to mount a positive response in Saturday’s lunchtime trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Evans takes United to Hillsborough looking to bounce back from the midweek stoppage-time defeat away to Ipswich Town, a result which brought an end to his side’s eight-game unbeaten run.

“You would want to throw yourself off a building if we got to the end of the season and we were a point short of us achieving anything,” the head coach said.

“That’s what we lost at Ipswich with the late goal, along with losing the momentum of the eight games unbeaten.

“We now need to start another run. I said at the start of the week that we needed to come out of these two games in a position where the points difference between ourselves and the play-off group is no different.

“That means we have to get a positive result at Hillsborough.”

Evans is hopeful of having striker Chris Wood back in contention, with the striker having been sidelined for United’s last three outings with a minor hamstring strain picked up in December’s 2-2 draw with Derby County.

“He can play but whether he will or not depends on a test this afternoon,” Evans said.

“He’s done some work this week and we’ll try and get him over the line.

“He’s such a big player for us and you don’t realise what you’re missing until he’s not there.”
